A 36-year-old basic care assistant from Ng Teng Fong General Hospital received a 15-month jail sentence after being convicted of molesting a male patient.
The healthcare worker, Danisha Nur Delisa Dewa, was found guilty of pressing a 23-year-old male patient’s left testicle three times on January 27, 2023, at approximately 2:30 PM while working at the hospital.
Throughout the trial, Dewa maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution presented evidence that Dewa had falsely represented his actions as a normal medical procedure when checking vital signs.
According to prosecutors, Dewa pulled curtains closed for privacy, questioned the patient about wearing underwear to gauge his reaction, and then molested him under the pretense of checking for pain as part of medical assessment.
Dewa’s defense claimed the allegations were false and suggested the victim was discriminating against him because of his sexual orientation.
The judge determined that Dewa had abused his position by taking advantage of a vulnerable patient under his care. The prosecution had requested a 15-18 month sentence, citing premeditation and breach of trust as aggravating factors.
The court noted that Dewa had accessed the patient without medical justification and cleverly disguised his actions by framing them as legitimate medical procedures, which left the victim feeling ashamed when reporting the incident later.
