A 56-year-old man was found dead in an HDB flat at Boon Lay Avenue on March 11, 2025.
Police received a report at 11:35 AM and discovered the deceased in a unit on the 11th floor of Block 187. A 58-year-old man, reportedly the victim’s brother, was arrested in connection with the case.
Officers cordoned off the 11th floor while investigation officers collected evidence from the apartment. Around 5:30 PM, the coroner and police removed the body and transported it away in a hearse.
Neighbors told zaobao.sg that both men rarely interacted with others in the building. They occasionally heard shouting from the unit but reported no unusual sounds prior to the incident. Several residents noted that the brothers appeared to have mental health issues.
Huang Peibo, a 93-year-old retiree who has lived in the block for 34 years, said he sometimes saw the arrested man and a woman in the elevator. They would either nod or ignore his greetings completely.
“More than 10 years ago, their father also lived with them, but I haven’t seen him for a long time,” Huang said.
Zail, a 21-year-old clinic assistant living next door, reported seeing a bespectacled man in handcuffs sitting in the corridor near the elevator around 1:00 PM. “He was wearing a blue T-shirt and had a blank stare,” she said.
Another neighbor, Nishian, a 37-year-old retail assistant, mentioned that while she only ever saw the two brothers, she frequently heard a woman coughing from the unit, suggesting a female might also live there.
Nishian described the older brother as tall, bespectacled, and balding, while the younger brother was short and thin. She sometimes heard the older brother shouting at night but couldn’t confirm if they were arguing.
Police later removed several bags of evidence from the unit, including what appeared to be bedroom items like pillows or bedsheets.
Sources told zaobao.sg that the victim likely died from asphyxiation after being strangled. Police stated that investigations are ongoing, and the cause of death is still being determined.
