A 7-year-old Singaporean boy died following a crash between a Singapore-registered car and a Malaysian-registered lorry in Johor Bahru.
The accident happened on Sunday (16 Mar 2025) at approximately 10:30 PM on Jalan Pantai in the direction of Perling.
Photos and videos on social media showed the Singapore-registered car with its right side crushed and windows shattered after the collision.
The lorry driver lost control before hitting the car, according to reports.
Johor Bahru South Police Headquarters confirmed in a Facebook statement on Monday (17 Mar 2025) that five people were in the Singapore car – a Singaporean couple, their children, and an Indonesian woman believed to be their domestic helper.
The impact threw the 7-year-old boy from the vehicle. Though the family was taken to hospital, the boy died from his injuries around 3 AM on Monday.
Police said the 57-year-old lorry driver tested positive for methamphetamine. He has been arrested and faces investigation for driving under the influence of drugs, drunk driving, and driving without a license.
