“A man in Singapore who sexually assaulted his daughter three times over three years faces prison time, but will reportedly not be caned,” reported The Straits Times (ST). The disturbing case unfolded when the victim, who has an intellectual disability, was first assaulted at the tender age of 11. The defendant, now 55, initiated the assaults in the shared bedroom where the family slept on mattresses. He took advantage of the night, waiting for everyone to fall asleep before molesting the victim, kissing her on the lips, and forcing her to touch him inappropriately.
“In Dec 2020, the man sexually assaulted his daughter again while she was sleeping. A third assault then occurred at around the same period,” the court heard. Despite the victim’s attempts to resist during the third assault, the man persisted in his heinous acts. The assaults only came to light in 2023 when the victim confided in her foster parents after being sent to a foster home following her parents’ separation.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution highlighted that the man was unaware of his daughter’s intellectual disability and sought a sentence of six years and five months’ jail for him. However, due to his age of over 50 years, the man cannot be caned as part of his punishment. The defendant is set to be sentenced on 3 April.
