SM Entertainment will open Southeast Asia’s first K-pop training academy in Singapore this June.
The Singapore branch of SM Universe, the company’s training academy subsidiary, will be located at *Scape.
The academy will offer a 21-week program focused on developing singing, dancing, and music production skills while building stage presence.
The program includes a week-long trip to SM Universe’s Seoul campus. Top students will have opportunities to audition for South Korean entertainment agencies during this visit.
The academy expects most participants to be between 13 and 18 years old, though there is no strict age limit.
The program costs approximately S$13,510.
The first cohort will be limited to about 50 students.
Prospective students must pass an online audition before acceptance.
Shorter programs will also be available for those wanting to improve performance skills.
SM Entertainment launched iconic K-pop acts including H.O.T., TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, Riize, and Aespa. The company opened its first SM Universe Academy in South Korea in 2023.
While the Seoul campus offers a three-year program with specializations in producing, singing, dancing, modeling, and acting, the Singapore location has modified its curriculum for an after-school format.
The academy will also provide classes for the GED (General Educational Development) test.
Jae-won Jang, CEO of SM Universe, said: “SM Entertainment is excited to expand into Southeast Asia and nurture new talent. This academy will provide aspiring K-pop artistes in the region with a world-class education and serve as a springboard for their growth as they pursue their dreams on the international stage.”
The academy’s launch reflects growing global interest in K-pop and increased demand for professional training.
