A 66-year-old traffic marshal died after being crushed by a road roller in Carpmael Road on Monday, March 3, 2025, around 4:00 PM. The accident occurred near a private housing estate where road paving work was scheduled.
Police and Civil Defence Force responded to the scene following reports of an accident involving a road roller and a traffic marshal. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
A 39-year-old road roller operator was arrested for causing death by negligence. The case remains under investigation.
According to a witness who works at the site, the road roller, weighing at least 10 tons, was reversing when it struck the victim who was crossing the road. The witness stated that the operator likely didn’t see the traffic marshal.
The victim had just completed his shift directing traffic for a road paving project scheduled for Tuesday when the accident happened. He had been working as a traffic marshal for several years, according to his widow.
After the accident, police cordoned off the area for investigation. The road section remained sealed for approximately seven hours, with the body removed around 10:00 PM.
Residents in the area had received notification letters from Singapore Power Group (SP Group) days earlier about road paving work scheduled for March 3-4, 2025. Following the accident, work at the site was suspended.
A spokesperson for SP Group confirmed that the project was contracted to Mo Guan Construction Engineering Pte Ltd, with Asphalt Specialist Services Pte Ltd as the subcontractor. The spokesperson expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
The widow of the deceased visited the morgue on Tuesday around 11:50 AM to claim the body. She stated she would consider next steps after receiving the investigation results.
