A 25-year-old female teacher described an uncomfortable encounter with a stranger who approached her with unwanted advances at a shopping mall.
The incident took place on March 15, 2025, outside 313@Somerset shopping center on Orchard Road.
The teacher, who remained anonymous, told Shin Min Daily News she was waiting for a friend when a dark-skinned man around 30 years old approached her.
She reported that the man initially spoke with what she called a “fake British accent” but switched to a local accent after learning she was Singaporean. This made her wonder if he targeted foreigners.
According to her account, the man told her he found her physically attractive and wanted “one-on-one interaction.” When asked to clarify, he specified he wanted “intimate” time and to do “things behind closed doors.”
The teacher rejected his advances. The man did not persist but gave her his business card before leaving, suggesting she contact him if she “changed her mind.” The card included his contact details and the name “Chocolate Paul.”
She later spotted the same man near SCAPE Youth Centre. Concerned about other young women in the area, she took his photo and shared her experience as a warning.
The teacher stated that while strangers had approached her before, they typically only inquired about dating rather than making direct sexual advances.
She felt offended by the man’s behavior. Though not physically harmed, she felt uncomfortable. She considered it a moral offense but did not report it to police.
The teacher expressed concern that while she recognized the man’s intentions and refused him, other young women in the area might be vulnerable, with potentially serious consequences.
