PAP new face Cassandra Lee hopes to be a strong advocate for young families and seniors if elected as an MP in West Coast-Jurong West GRC.
The 33-year-old lawyer and mother of a three-year-old son said many young parents today juggle raising children, supporting ageing parents, and pursuing careers — and their struggles need more attention.
“They deserve to be heard, and I want to be a voice for them,” she said during a media interview at the PAP West Coast branch on April 14.
Ms Lee, an assistant director at Ernst & Young, is one of two political newcomers on the five-member PAP team led by National Development Minister Desmond Lee. The team also includes surgeon Hamid Razak, three-term MP Ang Wei Neng, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Shawn Huang.
She has been active in grassroots work since the age of 17, inspired by her mother, a long-time PAP volunteer. Her political journey began in Yuhua, under Minister Grace Fu, where she learned the importance of listening to residents and planning ahead on their behalf.
Ms Lee was initially introduced as part of the Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC team, but was later moved to West Coast-Jurong West, where she is now walking the ground in Ayer Rajah.
She said her passion for supporting seniors stems from personal experience — her father died of cancer when she was a 23-year-old undergraduate. “It made me realise how important it is for seniors to age with dignity and access quality care,” she said.
Though the constituency is expected to be closely contested, Ms Lee said she is committed to giving her best, praising the outgoing MP Foo Mee Har for her mentorship.
“Ultimately, it’s about helping national policies reach residents meaningfully and doing the last mile delivery,” she said. “I’m here to serve — and I’ll let the voters decide.”
