Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu will lead the People’s Action Party (PAP) team in the newly formed Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC for the upcoming general election.
Joining her are incumbents Minister of State Murali Pillai and Rahayu Mahzam, alongside newcomers David Hoe, director of philanthropy at The Majurity Trust, and Lee Hong Chuang, former PAP Hougang branch chairman.
Mr Xie Yao Quan, who currently represents Jurong Central ward, will be fielded in the new Jurong Central SMC.
At the April 14 press conference, Ms Fu described the five-member team as a diverse group bringing “energy, experience and empathy,” with members aged between 30s and 60s and backgrounds in education, law, youth development and community service.
The new GRC brings together areas from Yuhua SMC, Bukit Batok SMC, parts of Hong Kah North SMC, and wards from Jurong GRC. It has 142,510 voters.
Outgoing MPs Amy Khor and Tan Wu Meng will not be contesting GE2025. Dr Khor’s Hong Kah North ward will be taken over by Mr Lee, while Dr Tan hinted at a future announcement about his next step.
Ms Fu acknowledged the legacy of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who anchored Jurong GRC for two decades. “It will be very difficult for any one of us to replace him and we don’t intend to. We are ourselves,” she said, adding that the team is seeking voters’ support with sincerity and respect.
Mr Hoe shared his personal journey from hardship to teaching, driven by a desire to “pay it forward”. Mr Lee, a former national gymnast, said he hopes to foster stronger family and community ties.
Mr Murali and Ms Rahayu pledged to continue serving residents with the same commitment, while Mr Xie, now standing in Jurong Central SMC, said he would build on his past five years of groundwork to serve residents better.
