Former senior civil servant Jeffrey Siow and neuroscientist Dr Choo Pei Ling will join the People’s Action Party (PAP) team contesting Chua Chu Kang GRC in the upcoming general election.
They will stand alongside Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and incumbent MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim. The announcement was made on April 14 at a press conference at the PAP Chua Chu Kang Branch.
At the same event, Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling confirmed she will defend the newly carved-out Bukit Gombak SMC.
Mr Siow, 46, stepped down as second permanent secretary at the Ministries of Manpower and Trade and Industry in early April. A former managing director of Enterprise Singapore and private secretary to then-PM Lee Hsien Loong, he said he was entering politics to serve in a “more direct and personal” way.
Dr Choo, who has volunteered in the community for over 20 years, is a neurophysiotherapist and assistant professor at Singapore Institute of Technology. She previously served as second adviser in Marine Parade GRC’s Kembangan-Chai Chee ward and was described as the “present and future” of Marine Parade by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
On joining Chua Chu Kang GRC, Dr Choo said: “I want to be a voice and a helping hand to support families and caregivers.”
DPM Gan also thanked outgoing MPs Amy Khor and Don Wee, who will not be contesting GE2025.
Meanwhile, Ms Low expressed her commitment to Bukit Gombak, which has been redrawn as a single seat, noting strong community bonds and shared achievements such as the newly opened Hume MRT station.
