A new political contender is emerging ahead of the 2025 General Election — the Most Valuable Party (MVP), founded by 32-year-old entrepreneur Chia Yun Kai, who intends to contest East Coast GRC.
Chia, who has lived in East Coast for two decades, said his political ambitions began in 2020 when Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat was fielded in the constituency. He described the last-minute announcement as uninspiring and said little had changed in the area since.
Frustrated by what he sees as stagnant leadership and recent political controversies, Chia launched MVP in March 2025. While not yet formally registered as a political party, MVP plans to run under the Elections Department’s provision for independent group candidates.
Chia said he has shortlisted two candidates for his five-member team and is recruiting the rest. Despite the party’s infancy — it currently has no manifesto or detailed policy plans — he insisted that MVP will champion “Singaporeans-first” policies on cost of living, job security and sustainability.
“We are not just the opposition,” he said. “We are the architects of a better tomorrow.”
Chia dismissed concerns about campaign funding, citing plans to leverage technology and social media to run an efficient, low-cost campaign.
He also rejected the notion of contesting a single-member ward, preferring to represent East Coast, which he considers home. “If they do carve out a Bedok SMC, I might actually run there,” he said.
As for the party’s unusual name, Chia said “MVP” was chosen to convey that his team aims to deliver value in Parliament. “It’s precisely because we are so different that you will find us bringing the most value,” he added.
