People’s Action Party (PAP) new face Diana Pang was spotted with five MPs from Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC at a Hari Raya event on April 13, further fuelling speculation about her electoral debut in the upcoming general election.
Ms Pang, 51, a long-time grassroots volunteer in East Coast GRC, was seen at Wisma Geylang Serai alongside Manpower Minister Tan See Leng, Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng, South East District Mayor Fahmi Aliman, MacPherson MP Tin Pei Ling and Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim.
Dr Tan, who anchors Marine Parade GRC, has previously confirmed that Prof Faishal will helm the Kembangan division in the newly formed Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC. Prof Faishal currently serves in Nee Soon GRC.
Ms Pang, who chairs the Fengshan Women’s Executive Committee and the PA Women’s Integration Network Council, had earlier been introduced by Dr Tan during a March 30 walkabout in Eunos.
Though she was not originally listed as part of the Hari Raya event, her appearance — in place of Minister Edwin Tong and another PAP new face, Dr Choo Pei Ling — added to speculation about candidate placements.
Dr Choo, an assistant professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology and grassroots adviser in Kembangan-Chai Chee, had recently appeared at a Chua Chu Kang event, hinting at a possible shift.
When asked about the changes, Dr Tan said, “In the next one week or so, there’ll be more announcements… My suggestion is really to wait. In due time, I’m sure each GRC will come up with a slate of candidates.”
