Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will lead the People’s Action Party (PAP) team in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC for the upcoming general election, marking his first trip to the polls as Singapore’s head of government.
He will be joined by the same slate of incumbents: Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower Zaqy Mohamad, North West District Mayor Alex Yam, and MP Hany Soh.
Speaking at the PAP’s Limbang branch on April 12, PM Wong said: “We are fielding the same team for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC,” adding that the party will roll out introductions for other constituencies in the coming days. Over 30 new candidates are expected to be fielded across Singapore – the largest batch in recent PAP history.
PM Wong, who became Singapore’s fourth prime minister in May 2024, said the specific constituency he contests in is secondary: “I will lead the party into the elections regardless of where I stand… and I hope Singaporeans will give me and my team the chance to do our best for them.”
Marsiling-Yew Tee is one of nine constituencies that saw no boundary changes in the 2025 electoral map. The GRC was formed in 2015 and is heading into its third contest. In GE2020, the PAP team won with 63.18% of votes, outperforming the party’s national average.
The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), which contested the GRC in 2020, has confirmed it will run again and is expected to announce its line-up soon. Party chief Chee Soon Juan has promised a “good slate” of new and returning candidates.
Marsiling-Yew Tee’s five-year masterplan, shared with residents last weekend, includes new parks, revamped community clubs, and sustainability upgrades. Major national projects such as the redevelopment of Kranji racecourse and the Woodlands Checkpoint also fall within the constituency.
