The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) has unveiled its campaign slogan for the 2025 General Election: “Thrive, Not Just Survive.”
Secretary-general Dr Chee Soon Juan announced the slogan during a walkabout and media event at Block 257 Bangkit Road on April 19. The location is part of Bukit Panjang SMC, where SDP chairman Professor Paul Tambyah will once again be fielded. Prof Tambyah garnered 46.27 per cent of the vote there in the 2020 election.
The slogan underscores the party’s call for greater quality of life for Singaporeans, with a focus on economic fairness, mental well-being, and social support. Among the policy proposals presented were a reduction of the goods and services tax (GST) to 5 per cent and its complete removal for essential items. The SDP also reiterated its call for a minimum wage act and increased mental health support, which it linked to rising living costs and population pressures.
Dr Chee, who will stand in the newly formed Sembawang West SMC, was joined by party members Alfred Tan and Damanhuri Abas, both part of the SDP team contesting Sembawang GRC. Other team members include deputy head of policy James Gomez and vice-chairman Bryan Lim.
The SDP has also confirmed its four-member slate for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, set to contest against a PAP team led by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The team includes party stalwart Jufri Salim, alternative news site founder Ariffin Sha, theatre director Alec Tok, and full-time caregiver Gigene Wong.
However, the party has yet to confirm whether it will field a team in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, which it has contested in previous elections.
This year’s message builds on the party’s past campaign themes. In 2020, it ran on “Four Yes, One No,” while its 2015 slogan was “Your Voice In Parliament.”
