Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, and for Transport, Dr Amy Khor will step down from politics and not contest in the upcoming General Election, citing personal reasons.
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong announced her retirement during a press conference on April 14, where the PAP unveiled its slate for Chua Chu Kang GRC and Bukit Gombak SMC. He thanked Dr Khor for her over 20 years of service and praised her efforts in community building in Hong Kah North and beyond.
Dr Khor, 66, has served as MP for Hong Kah North SMC since its formation in 2011, winning three straight elections. Her ward has since been absorbed into the newly created Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC and Chua Chu Kang GRC following electoral boundary changes.
As a Cabinet office-holder since 2006, Dr Khor championed sustainability, hawker culture, and waste reduction in her environment portfolio, and worked to improve transport connectivity and the private hire vehicle sector under the Ministry of Transport.
In a Facebook post, she said she was “ready and happy to make way for party renewal” and expressed gratitude to residents and volunteers.
“It has been a privilege and honour to serve Hong Kah North residents for the past 24 years,” she wrote. “While this chapter closes, I look forward to finding new ways to continue serving the community.”
