The Workers’ Party (WP) introduced four first-time candidates on April 17 for the upcoming general election, which will be held on May 3. The slate includes professionals from tech, law, diplomacy and public service.
The four new faces are:
- Kenneth Tiong, 36, director of tech start-up Sensemake AI, will run in Aljunied GRC.
- Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, 36, senior property manager at Aljunied-Hougang Town Council, will contest in Sengkang GRC.
- Siti Alia Abdul Rahim Mattar, 43, legal counsel at a multinational company.
- Eileen Chong Pei Shan, 33, a former diplomat now working in the charity sector.
The party has yet to announce where Ms Alia and Ms Chong will be fielded.
WP secretary-general Pritam Singh and party chair Sylvia Lim presented the candidates during a media briefing at the WP headquarters. Mr Singh noted that the party’s growth relies on bringing in individuals who can eventually surpass current leaders, and hinted that more candidates will be introduced in the days to come.

Mr Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik has worked with the WP since 2019 and stepped up his outreach efforts in Sengkang after the resignation of former MP Raeesah Khan. Ms Lim said his understanding of the ground makes him a strong candidate for the GRC.
Mr Kenneth Tiong, who holds a degree from Brown University, joined WP in 2023 and currently runs Meet-the-People Sessions in Serangoon. He says he is focused on jobs, economic security and family support policies.

Ms Siti Alia Abdul Rahim Mattar, a mother of three, brings experience from both private legal practice and her years at the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She joined WP in 2024, motivated by concerns over cost of living for future generations.

Ms Eileen Chong Pei Shan served in the Foreign Ministry and later worked in youth-focused philanthropy. She said she hopes to bring empathy and openness into Singapore’s political space, and foster more constructive, respectful dialogue.
WP is expected to field more than 30 candidates for GE2025, with at least 17 being newcomers.
