The Workers’ Party (WP) has unveiled another trio of new candidates for the upcoming General Election, bringing its tally of fresh faces to 11 so far.
At a press conference held on April 19, the WP introduced senior counsel Harpreet Singh, financial strategist Jasper Kuan, and lawyer Sufyan Mikhail Putra as its latest additions to the slate. The party did not disclose which constituencies they would be contesting.
Harpreet Singh, 59, is regarded as one of WP’s most high-profile recruits. A veteran in the legal fraternity and a senior counsel since 2007, Mr Singh joined the party in 2023 and began volunteering during the Covid-19 pandemic. He has been actively walking the ground at Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC, though speculation also points to the possibility of him contesting East Coast GRC – a constituency WP has consistently challenged in recent elections.
Jasper Kuan, 46, is a strategist in the financial and digital payments sector. He has been linked to Tampines GRC, where the WP has been building its presence and is expected to field a team.
Sufyan Mikhail Putra, 33, a lawyer by training, is among the younger faces in WP’s line-up. He was spotted on the ground in Punggol earlier this year and is seen as part of WP’s push to appeal to younger, urban voters in new constituencies.
This is the third day in a row that WP has introduced new candidates. The party is expected to field its largest-ever slate of first-time candidates — up to 17 — across at least eight constituencies, including Aljunied, Sengkang, Hougang, Marine Parade-Braddell Heights, and Tampines.
With the General Election set for May 3, WP continues to signal a strong renewal effort as it aims to expand its presence in Parliament beyond its current 10 elected seats.
