A 33-year-old man was arrested for possessing an offensive weapon at Block 507 in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 on Friday (25 Apr 2025) around 5:00 PM.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the man had been causing a disturbance while holding a utility knife after drinking in the housing estate. Concerned residents called the police fearing he might harm someone.
Police confirmed receiving a report at approximately 5:25 PM and arrested the man. When reporters arrived at the scene around 7:00 PM, two police cars remained parked nearby, and another man was being questioned by officers.
The arrested man’s drinking companion, identified only as 36-year-old Mohan, was surprised by the arrest. “We didn’t have any conflict. I don’t understand why the police suddenly appeared and took him away,” he told reporters. Mohan had been drinking with his friend since about 3:00 PM.
The arrested man’s wife arrived at the scene looking for cigarettes from her husband. Instead, she found police officers who had handcuffed him and were taking him away in a police car. She appeared reluctant to discuss the situation with reporters.
Local residents stated that the two men frequently consumed alcohol at the foot of the block and in a nearby pavilion. They often made noise but didn’t harass residents, so neighbors generally ignored them.
When reporters arrived, they observed officers removing a long, box-shaped evidence container from the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
