A 55-year-old man was found dead inside his Kia vehicle after it had been parked on Upper Paya Lebar Road for two days.
Workers in the area discovered the body on Thursday (3 Apr 2025) at approximately 3:45 PM in front of a bakery after becoming suspicious about the stationary vehicle.
A reader contacted Shin Min Daily News through their hotline, reporting that police had cordoned off the area and covered one car with a white cloth.
When reporters arrived, they observed at least three police vehicles and one crime scene investigation vehicle at the location.
The Kia car was covered with white cloth while police officers collected evidence from inside and around the vehicle.
Officers removed a waist pouch from the car and placed its contents on a white cloth on the ground. The pouch contained multiple Singapore dollar notes ($50, $10, $5, $2) and some Brunei currency.
A nearby employee who requested anonymity said he had seen the car parked by the roadside on Wednesday (2 Apr) evening during his smoke break.
He noticed a man sitting in the driver’s seat who appeared to be sleeping with his head tilted to one side, but didn’t think much of it at the time.
“I didn’t expect that when I came out to smoke around 3 PM the next day, I would see the same car still parked there in exactly the same position. That’s when I found it strange and thought, how could someone possibly sleep for so long?” the employee said.
Later that afternoon, a delivery person who regularly services businesses in the area informed the employee that the car had remained in that exact spot for two days.
Staff in the area became concerned and approached the vehicle to check on the occupant.
Upon closer inspection, they found the man in the driver’s seat had brown fluid coming from the corner of his mouth and showed no signs of life.
The employee immediately told his boss to call the police.
“The police arrived in less than 10 minutes after we called. The driver probably didn’t lock the door, as the officers opened it with one pull. They checked for a pulse right away but it was clear the man had been dead for some time,” the witness said.
As investigations continued into the evening, two women and two men, believed to be relatives of the deceased, arrived at the scene around 6 PM.
Police officers escorted them to the vehicle to identify the body.
One of the women broke down in tears while the two men appeared emotional, embracing each other for support.
A hearse from a local funeral service arrived at about 7 PM.
Police confirmed receiving a call for assistance at the location. According to their statement, a 55-year-old man was found motionless in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Based on preliminary investigations, police have ruled out homicide as the cause of death. The case remains under active investigation.
