A white Mercedes sedan was abandoned at the junction of Lorong 21 Geylang and Sims Avenue with its engine running after the driver and two passengers fled the scene on Friday (4 Apr 2025) around 7:30 PM.
Police confirmed that traffic officers had set up a roadblock along Lorong 14 Geylang toward Guillemard Road at approximately 8:00 PM on Thursday. The Mercedes stopped in front of the roadblock, reversed, and drove away to avoid inspection.
Mr. Huang, 28, who was driving behind the Mercedes, witnessed the three men exiting the vehicle and running in different directions. “There were no police chasing them at that time. I don’t know why they suddenly stopped and ran away,” he told reporters from Shin Min Daily News.
According to Mr. Huang, one person ran across the road toward shops on the opposite side, while another fled to the left.
A fruit shop employee, Mr. Fang, 33, reported hearing continuous honking before seeing a man in his 30s running past his shop. “He was running very fast. The Mercedes was blocking the intersection, and the police arrived about 20 minutes later,” he said.
Dashcam footage obtained by Shin Min Daily News showed the Mercedes traveling at high speed along Lorong 21 Geylang before stopping at the junction. The video captured three individuals exiting the car, with one grabbing a bag from inside the vehicle before escaping.
Following the incident, at least four police cars and two traffic police motorcycles arrived at the scene. Officers wearing gloves searched the car thoroughly, collected evidence in bags, and took photographs.
Police are currently tracking down the individuals, and investigations continue.
