Singapore will host its first physical general election rallies in ten years on April 24, 2025.
Five political parties received permits to hold rallies from 7pm to 10pm. This marks the return of in-person campaigning following the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in 2020.
Rally Locations and Participants
The People’s Action Party (PAP), Workers’ Party (WP), Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), Progress Singapore Party (PSP), and People’s Power Party (PPP) will each hold rallies in different constituencies.
PAP will rally at Woodlands Stadium in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC starting at 7:30pm. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will lead the team with Zaqy Mohamad, Alex Yam, and Hany Soh.
SDP will gather at Choa Chu Kang Stadium in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC from 7pm. Their team includes Jufri Salim, Ariffin Sha, Alec Tok, and Dr. Gigene Wong.
PPP will hold their rally at Temasek Junior College in Tampines GRC from 7pm. Their candidates are Goh Meng Seng, Derrick Sim, Vere Nathan, Peter Soh, and Arbaah Haroun.
PSP will rally at Catholic High School in Marymount SMC from 7pm. Jeffrey Khoo is their candidate, competing against PAP incumbent Gan Siow Huang.
WP’s rally will take place at a field along Anchorvale Crescent next to The Vales Condominium in Sengkang GRC from 7:45pm. Their team consists of He Ting Ru, Louis Chua, Jamus Lim, and Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik.
Security Measures
Large crowds are expected at all rally venues. Authorities recommend using public transport to reach the locations.
Traffic diversions, lane closures, and restricted carpark access will be implemented at each site. Only season parking holders may use carparks nearby.
Illegally parked vehicles or those causing obstruction may be towed away.
Security checks will be conducted at and around rally sites. Attendees should avoid bringing large bags or prohibited items such as weapons, glass bottles, laser pointers, and canned drinks.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has set up Temporary Restricted Areas over all rally venues from 6pm to 11pm. Flying drones or conducting aerial activities is prohibited during this period without CAAS authorization.
Rally Regulations
Candidates must apply for permits to hold rallies at designated venues. The police allocate venues by ballot if multiple applications are received for the same site and time.
While there is no fee for the permit, venue rental charges may apply. Applications must be submitted by 4pm the day before the intended rally.
The use of the Speakers’ Corner at Hong Lim Park is suspended from Nomination Day onwards. Public events or assemblies at this location require a police permit during the election period.
Historical Context
These rallies are the first since 2015. The 2020 general election had no physical rallies due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The 2025 General Election features 51 designated rally sites across Singapore. Of these, 49 are assigned to contested constituencies and two for lunchtime rallies in the city.
Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC will host rallies by both PAP and SDP on the same night.
Tampines GRC has a four-cornered fight, with PPP holding the first rally there. PSP is holding its first-ever physical rally and has invited supporters from across Singapore.
