Singapore Changi Airport won the title of world’s best airport for 2025 at the World Airport Awards in Madrid, Spain on April 9, 2025.
This is the 13th time Changi has received this award from London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax since the awards began in 2000.
Changi took back the top position from Qatar’s Hamad International Airport, which won in 2024. Hamad placed second this year, followed by Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) in third. South Korea’s Incheon International Airport ranked fourth, with Japan’s Narita International Airport in fifth.
Changi also won several other awards: Best Airport in Asia, Best Airport serving 60-70 million passengers, Best Airport Dining Experience, and the first-ever World’s Best Airport Washrooms award.
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted praised Changi’s accomplishment and highlighted its dining options. He noted that washrooms greatly affect customer satisfaction during airport visits.
Changi Airport Group (CAG) CEO Yam Kum Weng thanked passengers for their support and acknowledged the airport staff’s commitment to service.
According to CAG, Changi has now collected 697 awards, making it the most awarded airport globally.
The airport handled 67.7 million passengers in 2024, just short of its 2019 record of 68.3 million. This shows a 14.8% increase from 2023, with passenger numbers nearly back to pre-COVID levels.
Airport authorities expect to exceed pre-pandemic passenger figures in 2025.
Changi added 28 new brands and concepts in 2024, including Asia’s first Heineken World Bar and Victoria’s Secret’s first beauty and lingerie concept store in Asian travel retail.
In February 2025, the airport opened the Fit&Fun Zone in Terminal 2, a wellness area for travelers to fight travel fatigue.
Crowne Plaza Changi Airport won World’s Best Airport Hotel and Best Airport Hotel in Asia for the tenth year running. The hotel is located at Terminal 3.
The World Airport Awards are based on a global survey by Skytrax conducted between August 2024 and February 2025. More than 13 million airport users from over 100 countries took part.
The survey measured traveler experiences across many factors including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration. No third parties or sponsors were involved in the survey process, and more than 575 airports appeared in the results.
Survey questions covered staff friendliness, washroom cleanliness, website quality, and security perception.
Changi Airport was the first winner of the world’s best airport award when Skytrax launched its initial global airport survey in 1999. The airport also holds the record for the longest winning streak, taking first place for eight consecutive years from 2013 to 2020.
Changi fell to positions behind Hamad International Airport and Haneda Airport in 2021 and 2022, before winning again in 2023. It dropped to second place in 2024 before regaining the top spot this year.
