A 32-year-old Thai man stabbed himself in the leg after discovering chives in his Pad Thai despite specifically asking the restaurant to leave them out.
On April 5, 2025, police in Chonburi Province’s Napha District responded to reports of a man causing disruption in a convenience store.
When officers arrived, they found the man, identified as Thakorn, holding a 30cm knife with a bleeding wound on his left leg, according to Thai news outlet Channel 7.
The incident started when Thakorn ordered Pad Thai at a nearby restaurant with a request for no chives. When the dish arrived with chives despite his instructions, he threw the food away.
The situation worsened when the vendor demanded payment for the meal despite the mistake. This led to an argument that resulted in Thakorn’s extreme reaction.
Police found Thakorn in a distressed state with blood trailing behind him at the convenience store. Rescue workers provided first aid before taking him to Chonburi Hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injury.
Mr. Thanakornpoj, Thakorn’s employer, told authorities that Thakorn had simply left to buy food, and he didn’t know what caused such an extreme reaction. The employer helped calm Thakorn after seeing him shouting and waving the knife around the store.
Mr. Thanakornpoj stated that Thakorn does not use drugs, making his behavior puzzling to both his employer and authorities.
No one else was injured during the incident despite Thakorn’s erratic behavior with the knife.
Police announced they will arrest the suspect and investigate to determine the cause of his actions.
