Val Kilmer, American actor known for roles in “Batman Forever” and “Top Gun,” died at age 65 in Los Angeles.
His daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed to The New York Times that he died on Tuesday (1 April 2025) from pneumonia.
Kilmer’s career began in the 1980s when he gained fame playing Iceman in the 1986 film “Top Gun” alongside Tom Cruise.
He took on various roles throughout his career, including Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s “The Doors” (1991) and Batman in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” (1995).
In 2015, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer. The illness and treatments affected his voice, requiring him to use a voice box to speak.
Despite health issues, Kilmer appeared in “Top Gun: Maverick” (2022), returning as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
In 2021, he released a documentary titled “Val,” showing his life and career through footage he recorded over four decades.
Kilmer’s films have grossed over S$4.9 billion worldwide.
