A 43-year-old woman was molested while using an escalator at Pioneer MRT station with her daughter.
The incident occurred around 5:50 PM on Friday (18 Apr 2025). The woman immediately pursued and caught the perpetrator, then called the police.
Ms. Liu (name transliterated from Mandarin) told reporters she was taking her daughter to Jurong Point in Boon Lay for dinner when someone forcefully grabbed her buttocks on the escalator.
When she turned around, she saw a man behind her. A male student was also present who appeared to have witnessed the incident.
Ms. Liu confronted the man, who denied the accusation. When she took out her phone to call the police, the suspect attempted to leave by walking against the escalator’s direction.
She shouted at him not to run and chased after him, eventually catching him at the exit as he was about to tap his card to leave.
Ms. Liu blocked the suspect and asked for help from bystanders, who alerted MRT station staff and called the police.
According to photos and videos taken by Ms. Liu, a man in a purple shirt was detained by station staff until police arrived.
The suspect repeatedly denied the allegation. About 10 minutes later, officers from the Public Transport Security Command arrived and took separate statements.
Ms. Liu later posted about her experience on Xiaohongshu, stating she reported the incident to set an example for her daughter and other female victims.
Police confirmed receiving a report and have arrested a 26-year-old man for outraging a woman’s modesty.
The investigation is ongoing.
