25 electronic cigarette plastic cartridges were spotted on the grass outside Sengkang Green Primary School, raising concerns among parents and local residents.
A parent of a student at the school told STOMP she discovered the cartridges on April 17, 2025, outside the school gate. The items remained there when she passed by again on April 28, 2025.
“I found at least 25 plastic cartridges that have been there for several weeks. This is not only illegal but also unhygienic, carelessly thrown in a place where many children pass through. It shows complete disregard for others!” the parent stated.
The parent called for quick action from authorities to maintain cleanliness and safety around the school to protect children’s health.
A reporter from Shin Min Daily News visited the site on April 29, 2025. The area near the school’s side gate by Block 445A Fernvale Road had over a dozen e-cigarette plastic cartridges on the grass. Some cartridges had sunk into the soil while others were hidden in the grass.
Local residents expressed their concerns that e-cigarettes harm health and cause environmental pollution.
A 65-year-old resident, Mr. Cai, said people often gather below the apartment blocks at night and might be responsible for the litter. “Smoking e-cigarettes is illegal and harmful to health. If children see this, they might get curious or imitate the behaviour, which isn’t good,” he added.
Ms. Lin, a 71-year-old nearby resident, noted: “Recently I’ve often seen people throwing things from upper floors, like tissues and other garbage. I don’t know if these cigarette cartridges were thrown down by residents upstairs.”
