Ng Chee Meng, NTUC’s secretary-general and Jalan Kayu MP, has sent a lawyer’s letter. This action addresses Facebook posts by user Sng Chia Huat. Ng describes the posts as “false, misleading, and defamatory.” The posts featured a photo of Ng with Su Haijin.

The photo, taken May 1, 2021, at a dinner, became a focal point. Su Haijin was arrested in a 2023 money laundering probe. Ng previously stated he often takes photos at NTUC events. Upon learning of Su’s arrest, Ng ceased all interaction. He clarified his stance regarding the photograph.
Ng demanded Sng retract the allegations and issue an apology by May 16. He further requested Sng propose a damage amount. Ng intends to donate this amount to charity. He stated, “If he does not do so, I will be compelled to take legal action.” This action is to clear his name of these allegations.
Ministers Ong Ye Kung and Chee Hong Tat also issued lawyer’s letters to Sng. Their statements, released through press secretaries, called the allegations “baseless and false.” Similar to Ng, they demanded an apology and withdrawal of the posts. They also sought damages by May 16.
The ministers indicated that failure to comply would result in legal action. This is to protect their reputations and the government’s standing. The ministers are taking the issue seriously. They aim to address the spread of misinformation. Sources and related content
