A TikTok video posted on Tuesday evening, 29 Apr 2025, showed SMRT staff capturing a squirrel at an MRT station in Singapore The footage shows two to three SMRT staff members on a platform frantically attempting to trap a small, brown squirrel using various items, including coats and boxes.

The nimble squirrel avoided their initial capture attempts and led staff on a chase across the platform. Staff members worked together to contain the animal, using coats and cardboard boxes as makeshift traps.

The squirrel was finally caught when a staff member tossed a bright red coat over it. The team then transferred the animal into a small yellow box for transport away from the station.

Many social media comments suggested the squirrel might have entered the station to escape Singapore’s hot weather or heavy rain. Other comments praised the staff for their quick response and gentle handling of the situation.

The incident happened at approximately 1:30 PM on Tuesday. Lianhe Zaobao has contacted SMRT for more information about the incident and what happened to the squirrel after its capture.

This isn’t the first wildlife sighting in Singapore’s MRT network. Previous incidents have involved chickens, rats, and cats wandering into stations, requiring similar staff intervention.
