Taiwanese Entertainer Nono Chen Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Assault

Taiwanese entertainer Nono Chen Hsuan-yu received a prison sentence of two years and six months after being found guilty of one count of attempted forced sexual intercourse.

The Shilin District Court announced the verdict on May 13, 2025, following nearly a year of court proceedings.

The court dismissed six other criminal charges related to sexual assault that were brought against him.

The case remains open for appeal.

The Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office had sought a more severe punishment, noting that Nono showed no signs of remorse.

Prosecutors filed the charges against him in 2024.

Background of the Case

Prosecutors alleged that Nono used his celebrity status to meet victims between 2008 and 2013.

He allegedly arranged professional meetings to create situations where he could be alone with the women.

Standing at 181cm tall, he reportedly used his physical size to his advantage while groping victims and forcing sexual acts.

Amber Chang, one of the alleged victims, reported that he lured her into his car claiming he would drive her home.

At that time, she referred to him only as a celebrity who operated a chicken cutlet business.

During the car ride, he allegedly embraced her and pulled her into the back seat.

He then began kissing her and attempted to remove her underwear.

He stopped only when she pleaded with him, after which he allegedly made jokes about the situation.

Current Status

The original charges included three counts of forced sexual intercourse, two counts of forced indecent assault, and two counts of attempted forced sexual intercourse involving six women.

Two additional cases with other alleged victims were initially not prosecuted due to insufficient evidence.

After successful objections, the High Prosecutor’s Office reversed this decision.

These cases have been returned for additional investigation, which continues at present.

Public Response

Following the sentencing, internet users questioned whether the prison term was proportionate to the alleged crimes.

One commenter expressed confusion about the length of the sentence and asked if Taiwan implements caning as punishment.

Another internet user described the prison sentence as “short” given the circumstances.
