Dangerous Track Trespassing Incident Between Simei and Tanah Merah Stations

Police Launch Investigation into MRT Track Trespass Video Circulating Online

That is so dangerous!!

The Singapore Police are currently conducting an investigation following the circulation of a video on social media that purportedly shows an individual trespassing on the MRT track between Simei and Tanah Merah stations. In response to queries by CNA, SMRT Trains’ president, Lam Sheau Kai, confirmed that the company is aware of the video and has filed a police report regarding the matter. Lam expressed serious concern over the incident, emphasizing the significant safety hazards posed by track trespassing.

Mr Lam said: “We take a serious view of this incident, as track trespassing poses severe safety risks.

“Such reckless actions not only endanger the individual but can also cause service disruptions, affecting many commuters.

“When emergency brakes are applied, there is also a risk of causing injury to commuters onboard the train.”

Additionally, the activation of emergency brakes in response to trespassing incidents carries the risk of causing injuries to passengers onboard the trains.

The video in question captured the trespasser filming an oncoming train with passengers inside, before proceeding to cross the tracks after the train passed. The footage was recorded in the vicinity of the ongoing construction works for new viaducts connecting to the future East Coast Integrated Depot. SMRT is actively cooperating with the police authorities in their investigations to identify the individual involved in the incident.
