A fire recently broke out at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) in Pulau Tekong, specifically in one of its bunks. This happened on Friday, June 20, 2025. Thankfully no staff or trainees were injured.
The fire alarm went off at 1:51 PM that afternoon. The fire started in an empty accommodation block at the time, meaning no one was inside when it began. The team at BMTC acted fast. They heard the alarm and quickly saw some smoke, and they managed to put out the fire themselves very quickly. This quick action was key in making sure the situation didn’t get worse and that everyone stayed safe.
Soon after the incident, a video started going around on TikTok. This video showed what the bunk looked like right after the fire was put out. It gave a clear picture of the damage: the bunk room was covered in black soot, showing how much smoke there had been. Mattresses had been moved, and electrical wires that were no longer properly covered were exposed. The ceiling of the bunk was also completely blackened.
Right now, the people in charge are working to figure out exactly how the fire started. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is actively helping the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) with their investigation. They are working together to discover the cause of the fire in that bunk.
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) also made a statement saying that they are “committed to upholding high standards of fire safety to ensure a safe environment for our service personnel.” This means they are always working hard to make sure military training areas are safe places for everyone who works and trains there. Since the investigation is still ongoing, they also mentioned that they “are unable to provide further comments at this juncture,” meaning they can’t share more details until their work is complete and they have all the answers.
