A recent incident at a coffee shop in Yishun escalated into a violent brawl between a couple and four men, resulting in injuries and legal consequences. The altercation reportedly began when a dispute erupted at a table where four men were drinking, involving the man’s girlfriend, Ms. Chen. According to Mr. Chen, the couple’s intervention led to a series of confrontations, with Ms. Chen being threatened and physically assaulted.
During the scuffle, Mr. Chen recounted, “My girlfriend was then punched by one of the men. As the brawl erupted, I was also beaten.” The situation escalated quickly, leaving both Mr. Chen and Ms. Chen with significant injuries. Mr. Chen sustained a broken rib, bruises, and chest pain, while Ms. Chen’s left eardrum was damaged, affecting her hearing, and incurring medical expenses exceeding S$3,000.
The aftermath of the brawl was further complicated as Ms. Chen, the only one arrested on-site, faced legal repercussions due to her involvement in the physical altercation. Despite being seen fighting in the CCTV footage, Mr. Chen maintained that the situation was provoked by the actions of the men involved.
Following the incident, the couple opted to file a police report, seeking justice and retribution for the injuries and emotional distress inflicted upon them. Allegations from individuals within the coffee shop hinted at a potential role reversal, portraying Mr. Chen as an instigator known for aggressive behavior after consuming alcohol. However, Mr. Chen vehemently denied these claims, asserting his innocence and contesting the narratives circulating about his actions.
In response to inquiries, the Singapore Police Force disclosed that they were notified of the incident and promptly intervened, sending Mr. Chen to the hospital and arresting Ms. Chen for involvement in the affray. Investigations are currently ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the events that transpired at the Yishun coffee shop.
