Wow that’s so not nice!!
A ComfortDelGro taxi driver is currently under serious scrutiny after a video surfaced showing her throwing a passenger’s wheelchair onto the pavement. The incident, which happened on July 18, was caught on camera and quickly went viral after being posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, racking up over 350,000 views.
The video footage shows a blue taxi coming to a stop at a zebra crossing along Redhill Road. A red bag is then seen being flung out of the taxi onto the pavement. A passenger then exits the left rear door of the cab and picks up the red bag, handing it over to an elderly lady who had emerged from the front passenger seat.
The driver can be seen removing a wheelchair from the taxi’s boot. Instead of placing it down gently, she is captured hurling it onto the pavement. Following this, the driver then moves to close the rear passenger door. In a jarring moment, she is seen yanking the rear-seat passenger by the arm, pulling them away from the vehicle, before forcefully slamming the door shut. The rear-seat passenger was reportedly trying to retrieve an object that the elderly lady had left behind in the taxi. After this, the elderly lady makes her way towards the wheelchair, and the driver is then seen slamming the boot of the taxi twice.
ComfortDelGro, Singapore’s largest transport operator, was quick to address the incident. A spokesperson for the company explained that the situation arose from a personal dispute between the driver and the two family members she was transporting. Importantly, the spokesperson clarified that the incident “did not involve fare-paying passengers.”
ComfortDelGro has stated that the matter will be thoroughly addressed internally. The company confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the matter and disciplinary action will be taken against the driver, in line with company policies. The spokesperson firmly added that the driver’s actions were “unacceptable and do not reflect the professional standards we uphold.” This statement underscores the company’s commitment to maintaining a certain level of conduct among its drivers, regardless of the circumstances of the dispute. The widely shared video has prompted a significant public reaction, bringing attention to driver conduct and passenger interactions, even in non-fare disputes.
