A ride-hailing driver and his Singaporean passenger tragically lost their lives on Sunday morning, July 20, after the car they were in crashed into a lorry in Johor. The accident happened at around 11:27 AM along Jalan Johor Bahru-Ayer Hitam.
Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh, who is the North Johor Bahru district police chief, shared details of the incident with the Malaysian news agency Bernama. He explained that a Perodua Bezza car, which was being driven by a 48-year-old man and heading towards Skudai from Johor Bahru, is believed to have lost control. This loss of control then led to the car colliding with a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.
The impact of the crash was severe. The ride-hailing driver, a 48-year-old Malaysian man, was pronounced dead right at the scene. He suffered severe head injuries from the collision. The 27-year-old male passenger, who was a Singaporean, was still alive when he was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment. However, despite efforts, he sadly passed away while receiving medical care there.
The lorry driver, a 28-year-old man, fortunately did not suffer any injuries in the accident. The police are currently investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. This particular section deals with causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving, indicating the serious nature of the ongoing inquiry.
