CPIB Arrests Nine Over National Basketball League Match-Fixing Allegations

Nine Individuals Arrested for Alleged Basketball Match-Fixing

Nine individuals have been arrested for their suspected involvement in fixing matches in a local basketball league. The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) announced the arrests on Tuesday, August 19, following an investigation. The individuals involved include eight Singaporeans and one permanent resident, all of whom are aged between 19 and 35.

  • Suspects: Some of the individuals arrested are players from teams that are competing in the 2025 K. Star National Basketball League Division 1 competition.
  • Alleged Match: One of the games that was allegedly fixed was played on August 1 between the teams Tagawa and Tong Whye, which Tagawa won with a score of 66-43.
  • Investigation: Investigations are ongoing against all nine individuals for suspected offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The 2025 K. Star National Basketball League Division 1 is made up of 10 teams, including Adroit, SBA, Tagawa, Chong Ghee, Eng Tat Hornets, SG Basketball, Siglap Basketball Club, Xin Hua, Tung San, and Tong Whye. The first games of the competition began on July 14, with the final scheduled to be held on August 30.

The CPIB stated its firm position on the matter, noting that “Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, and match-fixing of any form is not condoned in Singapore. CPIB will not hesitate to take firm enforcement action against any parties involved if they have given, received, or offered bribes to fix a match.”

As investigations are still ongoing, the CPIB was unable to provide any further comments. In response to the news, CNA has reached out to the Basketball Association of Singapore, the league’s sponsor K. Star, and Sport Singapore for their comments on the situation.
