Grab Users in Singapore and Malaysia See Fares Exceeding S$1,000 Due to Glitch

Grab's System Error Causes Abnormally High Prices to Display on App

On Wednesday, August 20, the ride-hailing and delivery app Grab had a “system error” that led to some very strange and unusually high prices being shown to users. This issue, which was caused by a misconfigured fee in the system, affected users in both Singapore and Malaysia. Some of the fares displayed on the app were even higher than S$1,000, which understandably caused a lot of confusion and concern among customers.

The problem first started being reported by users around noon. As soon as Grab became aware of the error, the company quickly worked to fix it within just 20 minutes.

The company’s safeguards worked to block most of the bookings that had the incorrect, high charges from being completed by customers. The company stated that refunds for those users had already been processed and completed by 9 p.m. on the same day the incident happened.

Grab is working to improve its technology and prevent any future errors that could affect its users. The company is committed to maintaining a reliable and trustworthy service, and this incident has given them an opportunity to review and strengthen their processes.
