The controversy started when a journalist rushed to break news about Kang’s love life. The reporter snatched a photo from Kang’s old Cyworld account – Korea’s version of MySpace.
Plot twist: the photo showed Kang with her younger brother, not boyfriend Byun Jun Pil. When questioned about dating rumors, Kang denied them by explaining the man was her sibling.
Other journalists later discovered a different photo featuring Kang with Byun. Caught red-handed, Kang admitted to the relationship.
She had successfully hidden her 17-year romance from public view until that moment.
