A 49-year-old man slashed a 59-year-old companion with a penknife at a Toa Payoh HDB void deck on Aug 9, 2025. The attack happened after both men had been drinking at a nearby coffee shop.

Police and SCDF responded to Block 168 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh at 8:30pm. The victim was taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

An eyewitness saw the two men sitting with another couple at the coffee shop earlier. The men left their table and walked to the HDB block.

A woman later rushed to the coffee shop toilet to grab tissues. The victim was found sitting on the ground with a head wound.

“A woman helped call police and ambulance. Blood covered the ground everywhere. It was terrifying,” the eyewitness said.

Police arrested the 49-year-old suspect for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon. Officers seized a penknife as evidence.

Social media video showed multiple police officers at the scene with patrol cars and an ambulance. A group wearing red T-shirts had gathered in the area.

Police set up a cordon along the pathway to the coffee shop. The eyewitness believed the men started arguing over drinks and decided to “settle the matter” elsewhere.

Police investigations continue.
