An unusual traffic incident, caught on video, has left many people baffled and amused after a Mercedes driver was seen driving on a pedestrian footpath. The incident took place on Tuesday, August 19, at approximately 3:45 pm, outside the OCBC Centre on Chulia Street.
The video, which was shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group, shows the Mercedes making a left turn onto Phillip Street. Instead of staying on the road, the driver carefully steered the car up a ramp and onto the footpath. Bystanders were visibly bewildered by the sight of the car driving along the walkway.
The driver continued along the pedestrian path, slowly navigating the vehicle past the OCBC Centre. The car eventually reached a pick-up point, where it rejoined the proper roadway. The post noted that the driver’s actions seemed to be a simple mistake, as they carefully maneuvered the car rather than driving recklessly.
The video quickly went viral and sparked a lot of humorous reactions from people online. Many netizens joked that the driver was likely following GPS directions meant for walking or cycling, which sometimes leads to strange routes.

Others made sarcastic comments using the popular phrase, “your grandfather’s road,” to describe the driver’s sense of entitlement on the public path.

The reactions of passers-by in the video also became a source of amusement, with one man in a white shirt captured with a puzzled look that turned into a wide grin.

One joked that the driver might have mistakenly set the building’s lobby as the designated pick-up point.
