Train services between Farrer Park and Punggol Coast stations stopped completely on 12 Aug 2025 due to a power fault. SBS Transit announced the service disruption on social media.
The fault affected 11 stations along the North East Line. Free regular and bridging bus services operated between Dhoby Ghaut and Punggol Coast stations for affected passengers.
A Reddit user reported a power trip at Serangoon MRT station. Another commuter said they heard a crack sound while traveling to Punggol Coast. The train then stopped for 30 seconds. Passengers detected a smoky smell onboard.
The power fault also disrupted the Sengkang-Punggol LRT service. SBS Transit confirmed this on X.
CNA reporters visited Boon Keng Station at 11:20am. A security guard at ground level told passengers no trains were running. The guard prevented people from entering the station.
No announcements were made to passengers waiting on the platform. A stationary train bound for Punggol Coast remained on the tracks for five minutes during the observation period.
