A tall tree caught fire near Block 329 Tah Ching Road in Jurong West on 8 Aug at around 10:20pm. SCDF responded to the incident and put out the blaze with a hose reel and water jet.

No injuries occurred.

Pest Control Work Sparked Blaze

The fire started after pest control workers removed a beehive from the tree, according to Shin Min Daily News. The workers accidentally set the tree alight during their operation.

A Facebook video from Singapore Incidents showed flames consuming the tree. Burning ashes fell onto the grass below during the fire.

Residents Noticed Smoke and Response

Feng Shengkuan, 26, smelled smoke at his home and found an SCDF vehicle downstairs when he checked. He watched firefighters spray water on the tree. No flames were visible when he reached the scene.

Feng first thought someone had tossed a cigarette from an upper floor unit.

Another witness saw firefighters hosing the tree but spotted no flames during the operation.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.
