Singapore-based TV host Lee Teng and his Taiwanese wife Gina Lin welcomed their first child on 13 August. The baby boy is named Ellison.
Lee, 41, announced the birth on Instagram. He joked that he should now be called “Ellis’ dad”. Lin is 32 years old.
The couple calls Ellison their “rainbow baby”. This term describes children born after pregnancy loss.
Couple Lost First Child in 2020
Lee and Lin lost their first child in July 2020. Lin was six months pregnant when she miscarried. The unborn baby boy was nicknamed Xiao Dou Ya, meaning “Little Bean Sprout” in Chinese.
Lin had returned to Taiwan to prepare for the birth. Lee stayed in Singapore for work. COVID-19 restrictions prevented him from traveling to be with his wife during the miscarriage.
Lee reunited with Lin in Taiwan in August 2020. The couple spent three months together in Taiwan. They used this time to heal from their grief.
Lin Describes Emotional Struggles During Second Pregnancy
Lin wrote about her challenges on Instagram. She posted in Chinese about the physical, mental and emotional strain she experienced over the past few years. She tried to appear calm to others but struggled internally.
“In reality, I’ve become incredibly sensitive and insecure,” Lin wrote. She lived with repressed emotions and spent most of the pregnancy at home.
Lin addressed her newborn son in the Instagram post. She thanked him for choosing her as his mother and for giving her courage to face her birthday. She said he helped piece together “the broken me bit by bit”.
Lin expressed disbelief at holding her healthy baby. “From the moment I heard your first cry, it felt so unreal. I wake up every morning and ask myself, ‘Is this true?'”
Lee Apologizes for Keeping Pregnancy Secret
Lee apologized to his followers for not announcing the second pregnancy. He explained that the couple faced countless setbacks. There were moments when he could not bear watching his wife’s disappointment.
“At times, I asked if we should give up, simply because I couldn’t stand watching her suffer,” Lee wrote.
Lee said the wait was long. But seeing their rainbow baby’s smile made every second worthwhile.
The TV host also apologized for turning down work over the past year. He supported his wife during the pregnancy. Lee thanked Lin for her perseverance in becoming a mother.
