A 26-year-old woman was hit by a car after running across Bideford Road in Orchard on 2 Aug 2025 at around 10am. The Singapore Civil Defence Force took her to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while she was conscious.
Police confirmed they received reports about the accident involving the female pedestrian and a 43-year-old male driver. The driver is helping with investigations.
Dashcam Records Woman Emerging from Behind Lorry Before Collision
The accident was recorded on the dashcam of the car involved. The footage was later posted on Facebook page Singapore Incidents. The vehicle was driving in the right lane of Bideford Road, passing a line of cars in the middle of the road.
The car was driving under an overhead bridge connecting Paragon Orchard to Masjid Al-Falah when a pedestrian suddenly appeared from in front of a lorry. She ran across Bideford Road directly beneath the overhead bridge.
Both the woman and car tried to stop after seeing each other. It was too late.
The collision sent the woman into the windshield, cracking it. She flipped upside down as she flew off the bonnet and landed on the road.
Online Users Debate Who Was at Fault
The viral post started heated discussions online. Netizens were split over who was responsible. One netizen said the pedestrian was jaywalking and caused injury to herself while putting other motorists at risk.
Jaywalking in Singapore means crossing the road within 50 metres of a pedestrian crossing without using it. Overhead bridges, like the one above the woman, count as pedestrian crossings.
Other commenters blamed the driver for driving too fast. One user criticized both the car for speeding and the pedestrian for being careless.
Another netizen said the driver could not have expected a pedestrian to suddenly appear from a blind spot, even if they were driving slowly.
