Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and Cathay Pacific have cancelled flights to and from Hong Kong as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches the city, reported The Straits Times.
Hong Kong International Airport will suspend all scheduled passenger flights for 36 hours from 8pm on 23 September 2025 to 8am on 25 September 2025.
Singapore Airlines Cancels 12 Flights
Singapore Airlines announced 12 cancelled flights between Singapore and Hong Kong. The affected flights include SQ898 and SQ899, among others.
The cancelled flights are:
- SQ898, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (23 Sep)
- SQ874, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ882, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ892, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ894, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ898, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ899, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ875, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ883, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ893, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ895, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (24 Sep)
- SQ899, departing from Singapore to Hong Kong (25 Sep)
Two flights, SQ894 and SQ895, departing on 23 Sep 2025, have been moved to earlier departure times.
Services between Singapore and Shenzhen will not operate during this period. Customers affected by these cancellations can rebook on alternative flights or receive a full refund.
The airline said it will continue monitoring weather developments.
Scoot Suspends Six Routes
Scoot cancelled six flights to and from Hong Kong. Affected passengers received direct notifications with options to switch to alternative flights or request refunds for unused ticket portions.
The cancelled flights are:
- TR128 SIN-SWA (23 Sep)
- TR129 SWA-SIN (23 Sep)
- TR904 SIN-MFM (23 Sep & 24 Sep)
- TR905 MFM-SIN (23 Sep & 24 Sep)
- TR980 SIN-HKG (24 Sep)
- TR981 HKG-SIN (24 Sep)
Cathay Pacific Cancels Over 500 Flights
Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s flag carrier, expects to cancel more than 500 flights.
All inbound and outbound flights between 6pm on 23 September 2025 and 6am on 25 September 2025 have been suspended. Some long-haul departures earlier in the day, including routes to Zurich, Los Angeles, and New York, were also cancelled.
Cathay Pacific moved some aircraft out of Hong Kong to nearby airports as a precaution. The airline aims for flight service to resume gradually on Thursday and Friday.
Weather Forecast Warns of Severe Winds
Hong Kong’s Observatory has forecast winds at hurricane force offshore and on high ground. The city expects rapid weather deterioration, with typhoon signals set to escalate throughout Monday. Gale-force winds are expected from Tuesday onward.
Other Airlines Take Precautions
Airlines are contacting affected customers and rebooking them on other flights or partner carriers where available.
Qantas and Hong Kong Airlines have also issued cancellations and travel advisories. All flights face significant disruption during the 36-hour closure window.
Local authorities and airport operators in Hong Kong have prepared emergency measures as Typhoon Ragasa approaches southern China. The typhoon swept through northern Philippines with wind speeds up to 265km/h.
