The Al-Istiqamah Mosque at 2 Serangoon North Avenue 2 was evacuated on 24 Sep 2025 after staff discovered a suspicious parcel sent to the property.
Singapore Police Force (SPF) received the alert at about 5:20pm. Authorities cleared the premises as a precautionary measure, The Straits Times reported.
Police and SCDF Response
Police officers and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel arrived at the scene. Hazardous materials specialists were deployed to examine the package.
Detection equipment scanned the site. No hazardous substances were found inside the package.
The area around the mosque was cordoned off. Residents and pedestrians were kept away from the mosque perimeter.
Multiple emergency vehicles surrounded the building. These included hazmat trucks, an ambulance, and fire engines.
SCDF assessed one person for breathlessness. The individual was taken to Sengkang General Hospital. No other injuries occurred.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) released a statement acknowledging the incident. MUIS confirmed its cooperation with authorities.
Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim visited the mosque. He spoke with staff who had received the package. The staff appeared physically unharmed and received community support.
The mosque opened in May 1999 under the Mosque Building Fund. It can hold up to 3,300 worshippers.
Normal mosque operations resumed on 25 Sep 2025. Congregational prayers proceeded as scheduled.
Police investigations continue. Authorities advised the public to avoid speculation while inquiries are active.
