The Prive Group, a well-known name in Singapore’s food and beverage (F&B) scene, has officially closed down all its restaurants. In a message sent to its suppliers, the group announced that it would “cease all restaurant operations after the close of business on 31 August 2025” and would be getting an independent financial advisor to handle what happens next. The company also expressed its “deeply sorry for the current situation” and requested patience during this transition.
The Prive Group, which was started in 2007 with its first restaurant at Keppel Bay, said this decision was a tough one. In a statement on Monday, September 1, the group said that “the combination of external market challenges and rising operational costs leaves us with no viable path forward.” This is a huge blow, but the group also added that they “remain hopeful for the future of the F&B industry in Singapore and encourage you to continue supporting the incredible homegrown brands that make our culinary scene so unique.”
This closure is part of a bigger struggle for many F&B businesses in Singapore, with a lot of places closing down in the last couple of years.
What Happens Next
Two of Prive’s outlets at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM)—the Chinese restaurant Empress and the cafe Prive ACM—will not be closing for good. They will continue to operate under a new management, Commonwealth Concepts.
The chief operating officer of Commonwealth Concepts, Brian Stampe, explained that the group has taken over the spaces as of September 1. He said that “Commonwealth Concepts will operate Empress at ACM, and it remains open for visitors to the museum and the general public without any disruptions in service.” As for the old Prive ACM spot, it will be turned into a new Baker & Cook cafe, which is set to open on September 4. This change is being made to make sure that the museum visitors still have options for food and drinks. Commonwealth Concepts is a big F&B company that also runs popular spots like Fat Cow, Bedrock Bar & Grill, and PastaMania.
The Prive Group’s journey had already faced some difficulties before this final closure. Several of its restaurants, including those at Jewel Changi Airport and 313 Somerset, had already shut down earlier this year. Its location at Paragon was also taken over by the American coffee chain Blue Bottle in July. The final remaining outlets that have now closed were at Holland Village, Botanic Gardens, and Wheelock Place.
