On a recent Friday evening, an incident occurred at the Alexandra Park Connector, involving a heated exchange between a 46-year-old man and an elderly pet owner. The dispute, which reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, was sparked by a disagreement over dog waste that was allegedly not cleaned up.
According to a witness, Mr. Qiu, the confrontation began when he observed an 81-year-old man’s poodle defecating on the grass, with the owner making no move to clean it up. When Mr. Qiu approached to advise the man, the elderly pet owner reportedly retorted, “I don’t see it,” and then taunted Mr. Qiu, saying he should clean it up himself if he saw it.
Mr. Qiu shared video footage showing the elderly man riding a bicycle while walking his dog. He claimed that when he confronted the man, the situation quickly escalated into aggression. “The man was very rude, asking me to clean up for him, and then rode his bicycle into me,” Mr. Qiu alleged. The incident reportedly left Mr. Qiu with minor bruises on his ankle.
The dispute intensified to the point where vulgarities were exchanged, and the elderly man insisted that he was being “bullied.” To prevent the man from leaving, Mr. Qiu held onto the bicycle until the police arrived. A police statement confirmed they received a call for assistance and that the 46-year-old man had sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
It is understood that several signs are posted in the park connector reminding dog owners to clean up after their pets or risk a fine. Mr. Qiu claimed the elderly man had pulled one of these signs out and thrown it at him during the dispute.
Additionally, in an online group for dog lovers, several members mentioned they had seen the elderly man before, with one member commenting, “His dog leash is very short; it feels like he’s dragging the dog along.”
