A video showing a “prisoner” being separated from her family at a funeral went viral on TikTok, with many people getting emotional over the scene. But it turned out that everyone was fooled—it was actually just a scene from a Mediacorp drama.
The TikTok video, which was posted on a Sunday, showed police officers pulling a woman away from a younger man and woman at a carpark. They were all wearing matching white T-shirts and blue pants, which are common at Chinese funerals. The person who posted the video claimed they “saw this prisoner who was granted permission to attend funeral wake.”
The clip, which had a sad soundtrack, showed the three people hugging emotionally. Then, the “prisoner” was escorted into a police van. The person who posted the video added, “Farewell is not easy at all,” along with a photo of the two young people watching the van drive away.
One person commented that the scene had them “tearing up in bed at 3am.”

Another person shared their own sad experience, saying they had been allowed to attend their late mother’s funeral while they were in jail, and that it was the “saddest day of [their] life.”

Some people even told the person who posted the video to “give them privacy.”

However, at the end of the video, it was revealed that the whole thing was a film set. The last part of the clip showed lots of cameras and crew members at the spot. In a follow-up post, the video creator even shared the actual scene that appeared on TV.
It turned out that the video was from the 2018 Mediacorp serial “A Million Dollar Dream.” The “prisoner” in the video was actually veteran actress Zoe Tay.
While many people were tricked, some netizens knew it was fake from the start. One person jokingly said that the people in the scene were “all too good looking” for it not to be a Mediacorp show.

Another user said they weren’t convinced because “Zoe Tay’s hair was too slay.”
