“I Don’t Give Chances, This Is Not Charity”: Influencer Rejects Lau Pa Sat Date, Goes Viral

Singapore Influencer Calls First-Date Suggestion “Plain Rude,” Sparks Online Backlash

A Singaporean influencer has gone viral on TikTok after she spoke out against a date who suggested meeting at Lau Pa Sat. Her strong opinion on the matter has led to a major discussion online, with people having very different reactions to her view.

In a video, the influencer, known by her handle @naomiblackk, questioned the choice of venue. She looked at the camera and asked, “Tell me honestly, do I look like a Lau Pa Sat kinda gal?” This clip has been shared a lot across different social media platforms, with many people now debating whether the well-known hawker centre is a good spot for a first date.

The influencer also posted screenshots of her conversation with the person who asked her out. When he suggested Lau Pa Sat, she replied, “Not really.” She went on to tell him that they didn’t seem to have the same taste, and that it would be better to end things there. “I think it’s best to call it here,” she wrote.

In a caption that accompanied the post, she said that anyone who suggests a first date at Lau Pa Sat would be “cancelled.” She described the suggestion as “plain rude,” regardless of how good-looking the other person might be. She ended her thoughts on the matter with a very direct statement, saying, “I don’t give chances; this is not charity.”

Many people disagreed with her, with some even saying that the guy was better off without her. One user commented that “He dodged a bullet,” suggesting that she could have simply suggested a different place if she didn’t like his choice.

Another person simply asked, “What’s wrong with Lau Pa Sat?”

A few others pointed out that the food at Lau Pa Sat can actually be quite expensive, which could make it a perfectly reasonable spot for a first date.

However, a few people agreed that a hawker centre is not the right kind of place for a first date. One comment read, “Lau Pa Sat is crazy for a first date.”

Another user said that while it might be fine for a later date, it’s definitely not suitable for a first meeting.

A different user brought up some practical issues, like the noise and the difficulty of having a proper conversation in such a crowded place.

One person summarized the feelings of many, saying, “She does sound a little mean, but I still think it’s wrong to go to a hawker centre kind of place for a first date.”
