Knife attack in Yishun: one woman dies, police arrest suspect

Woman fatally stabbed in Yishun block; dispute suspected, suspect arrested

A shocking event took place in Yishun today. A 67-year-old man was arrested for murder following a dispute over noise that turned fatal.

The police were called to Block 323 Yishun Central at around 7:25 am. When they arrived, they found three people injured in the corridor on the sixth floor: a 31-year-old Vietnamese woman, a 33-year-old man, and the 67-year-old suspect. The woman was taken to the hospital but sadly passed away. The other two men were also hospitalized for their injuries.

What We Know About the Incident

According to early police reports, the fight began due to a long-standing dispute over noise. The suspect is believed to have used a knife to injure the couple. A resident from the floor above, Ms. Clara Koh, said she was woken up by loud shouting. She went to see what was happening and saw her neighbor, the woman, lying on the ground, bleeding.

Ms. Koh also saw the woman’s husband, who appeared to have a stab wound in his back, trying to keep the attacker away. The attacker was a neighbor who lived on the fifth floor.

A History of Conflict

Ms. Koh mentioned that the two sets of neighbors from the fifth and sixth floors had been in conflict for years. The couple on the sixth floor had two young children. The neighbor on the fifth floor would reportedly get angry when the children dropped toys or ran around. In response, he would allegedly hit his ceiling with a mop or other objects.

Ms. Koh also noted that the man from the fifth floor didn’t speak to many of his neighbors. She described the whole situation as “unreal” and said she couldn’t understand how a fight like this could happen.

As Ms. Koh said, “I can’t understand how something like this could happen because of a fight.”
